It’s Time for the Scientific Community to Admit We Were Wrong About COVID and It Cost Lives

Jan 31, 2023 – NEWSWEEK OPINION

KEVIN BASS , MS MD/PHD STUDENT, MEDICAL SCHOOL

As a medical student and researcher, I staunchly supported the efforts of the public health authorities when it came to COVID-19. I believed that the authorities responded to the largest public health crisis of our lives with compassion, diligence, and scientific expertise. I was with them when they called for lockdowns, vaccines, and boosters.

I was wrong. We in the scientific community were wrong. And it cost lives.

I can see now that the scientific community from the CDC to the WHO to the FDA and their representatives, repeatedly overstated the evidence and misled the public about its own views and policies, including on natural vs. artificial immunityschool closures and disease transmissionaerosol spreadmask mandates, and vaccine effectiveness and safety, especially among the young. All of these were scientific mistakes at the time, not in hindsight. Amazingly, some of these obfuscations continue to the present day.

EDITOR: After reading the entire article do consider some of the comments… like this one:

Sorry, Kevin. Although the basic premise of your suggestion sounds “reasonable”, the damage in trust is not the only “fallout” from the past 3 years.

What the whole “covid” thing has revealed is the foundational principles of medicine in the West have been “captured” by regulatory bodies (both government-based agencies and society-based organizations such as The Royal Society) and the pharmaceutical industry. This is now baked-into the system known as “Western Medicine”.

Because of the incentives built into this “system”, it CANNOT be trusted to act in the best interests of the public health. Truly, CANNOT be trusted – no matter how “noble or self-less” the character of any individual operating within this system.

Given this reality, what is required is more than an honest and open assessment of what was done – by governments, private industry, and media (including “social media”).

What is required is a post-World War II type of assessment on the basic principles under which any “public health system” operates and a codifying into TREATY LAW of those principles, so that public health officials, governments at any level (nation-wide, state, or local levels), future “task forces”, and health “experts” are all strictly constrained in their power and authority so NOTHING like this ever happens again.

This has to be then signed onto by each Nation electing to affirm and abide by those principles.

Nothing less will do.
