Only 6% of US Pandemic Deaths Were Due Exclusively to Covid-19

Published by NBC on August 30:

According to the CDC 9683 died in the United States with only having COVID-19 listed on their death certificate.

According to the article this information was previously unavailable, at least for Michigan. I’m not sure how to check if it was unavailable for other states as well.

This is vital information. It emphasizes the role that our health (and, by implication, our lifestyle) plays in our viral outcome. It also emphasizes the fact that this cruel pandemic takes our most vulnerable.

Had they been forthcoming with this information six months ago we could have made changes in our lifestyle and increase our chances of survival.

The following are the top reported underlying medical conditions linked with COVID-19 deaths.

* Influenza and pneumonia

* Respiratory failure

* Hypertensive disease

* Diabetes

* Vascular and unspecified dementia

* Cardiac Arrest

* Heart failure

* Renal failure

* Intentional and unintentional injury, poisoning and other adverse events

* Other medical conditions

Note that some of these comorbidities listed on death certificates we’re actually caused by covid-19. But the ones that were actively present in the patient before covid-19 are the ones of interest.
