6 Health-Boosting Habits with Circadian Sleep Expert Dr. Satchin Panda

Satchidananda (Satchin) Panda, PhD is a Professor at the Salk Institute in California, where he conducts critical research on the circadian regulation of behaviour, physiology, and metabolism. His discoveries include identifying the role of blue-light sensing cells in the retina, which influence our primary circadian clock, mood, and the production of the sleep hormone melatonin. Additionally, Dr Panda’s work on time-restricted feeding (TRF) has highlighted its potential in preventing and reversing metabolic diseases. Among his accolades are the Julie Martin Mid-Career Award in Aging Research and the Dana Foundation Award in Brain and Immune System Imaging. With a strong foundation in research, Dr Panda brings a wealth of knowledge to our discussion on circadian rhythms.

In this episode, we dive deep into the recent, much anticipated randomized controlled trial on the MIND diet. The headlines were ablaze with the dissapointing, less-than-stellar results of the study, but was it truly the diet that didn’t work as well as it should have, or was the methodology flawed?

We discussed the background of the findings on the MIND diet in previous studies and its effect on cognitive health, the detailed methodology of the current randomized controlled trial, its outcomes  and how it impacts our understanding of nutrition and brain health.

How Rob Mooberry Healed Stage 4 Colon Cancer

Sept 2023

  • 37 year old Rob Mooberry (now 48) was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in 2012
  • He’d had (what he considered to be) a healthy diet and exercised when he was hospitalized with a perforated colon
  • The Las Vegas bartender underwent surgery, chemo and radiation therapy, and was downgraded to stage 3A
  • But he decided to take a break before his next bout to ‘detox’ with a raw vegan diet similar to Tom Brady’s alkaline diet
  • By the time of his next scan in early 2013, his cancer had reduced 80%
  • He declined further treatment and is now celebrating nine years cancer-free
